Data That Reflects Real Lives
We don’t collect data for the sake of numbers—we use it to drive equity, inform action, and stay accountable to the communities we serve.
At the McFadden Finch Foundation, research isn’t abstract. It’s grounded in lived
experience. We collaborate with community partners, local researchers, and grassroots
organizations to gain a deeper understanding of what works, identify gaps, and enhance
our impact.
We share what we learn because knowledge belongs to the people, not to sit on a shelf.
What We Measure
We track both numbers and narratives to gain a comprehensive understanding of
community change. Our focus includes:
- Access to capital for small businesses and nonprofits
- Stability and growth of BIPOC-led organizations
- Youth outcomes across education, leadership, and creative development
- Neighborhood indicators like housing affordability, arts access, and civic participation
- Community voice through surveys, listening sessions, and focus groups
We’re committed to data that reflects equity, not just efficiency.
How We Use It
- To improve our programs and grantmaking
- To inform local and regional policy
- To advocate for resources in underinvested neighborhoods
- To support grantees with tools they can use to tell their own impact stories
We also partner with organizations doing their own community-based research—and fund projects that lift up neighborhood knowledge.

Community-Driven Learning
Those closest to the issues are also closest to the answers. That’s why we co-design many of our research projects with grantees, coalitions, and community members.
